I fell in love with Chuck Close's photorealistic paintings the minute I saw them my junior year of high school. Being the first artist I was heavily exposed to, he quickly became (and still is) one of my favorite painters. Above are two photos of his famous painting Mark which resides at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Not too long ago I had the privilege of seeing it in person, and it was absolutely awe inspiring.
For anyone who may be interested, Chuck Close will actually be speaking at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA on October 1 (about 10 blocks away from VCU). He currently has an exhibit there as well called Chuck Close: People Who Matter To Me. I actually saw some of this exhibit yesterday and plan to closely view the rest of it as soon as I get the chance. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting this exhibit or going to the museum to watch him speak; the price for members is $12 and non members is $15, but it will be worth every penny.
